On March 4, 2026, Preston M. Jones pled guilty to felony assault of a police officer, domestic violence, and resisting arrest. The charges arose from an incident that occurred on January 4, 2026. Officers from the Celina Police Department were dispatched to an apartment complex in Celina. Upon arrival, officers spoke with Jones’s girlfriend, who had visible injuries to her neck and hand from an altercation with Jones.
When officers went to arrest Jones for domestic violence, he became combative and lunged towards one of the officers, causing the officer to strike his head on a doorway. The officer was later treated for his injuries, which required stitches.
Despite injuring an officer, Jones continued his resistance and ignored repeated warnings that he would be tased if he did not cooperate. Officers had to tase Jones twice before he finally placed his hands behind his back so that he could be arrested.
Jones will be sentenced on April 9, 2026 at 1:30 PM. He faces a maximum of 18 months in prison and a $7,000 fine.
